PTV Visum 2023

Simulation-based assignment with hybrid macro-meso simulation

A hybrid macro-meso solution was developed to enable a model-wide view while at the same time to drastically reduce modeling efforts. In the project study area, the simulation-based assignment (SBA) method is used, i.e., a dynamic method in which temporal changes of the supply as well as the waiting times resulting from junction control are considered. In the remaining part of model, vehicles are propagated through the network based on the macroscopically determined travel times, i.e. with static methods.

Public transport: Easy process of Check-In/Check-Out Ticketing System Big Data

Analysis of the current situation is an essential part of the planning and improvement of Public Transport systems. This requires capturing and processing of data about passenger streams and their origins and destinations. Automatically collected data, e.g. from ticketing systems is increasingly used for that purpose in addition to classic passenger surveys. With PTV Visum 2023 we added the option “Access control at the vehicle and at the stop (location, time, trip information)” and “Access control at the stop”. By adding those options, it was possible to accelerate the plausibility check-in/check-out data considerably (by a factor of about 150). This is especially helpful regarding the high sample size (close to 100%) of such systems.

Model bicycle traffic with OSM data

Cycling continues to receive more attention in transport planning. Since Visum 2022, there is a dedicated bicycle assignment. The biggest difficulty to date is the generation of a network that is suitable for modeling bicycle traffic. In Visum 2023, a new configuration ‘Detailed urban bicycle network’ has been added to the import of data from OpenStreetMap (OSM).

PTV Vissim 2023

Easily switch to meso modeling with “Create Meso Network Nodes”

The new "Create Meso Network Nodes" function automatically creates the meso network nodes required for a mesoscopic simulation and therefore saves you time and gives a headstart for mesoscopic simulation. The prerequisite is that the network is suitable for a dynamic assignment and that the nodes for the dynamic assignments are of type "polygon".

Reverse Parking

With PTV Vissim 2023, car parks can be modelled even more realisticly - with vehicles parking forward or nose-out, or in any combination of both.

Network / Scenario Comparison

Vissim 2023 offers the possibility to compare networks and scenarios with each other and to display the differences in the form of an interactive tree and in the network editor.
The new function "Compare Current Network with Network File..." in the menu "File->Compare and Transfer Networks" allows you to compare the currently loaded network with another network.

Improved duplicating objects

Copy and paste of multiple selections within a network has been improved. This applies in particular to the behavior of selections of multiple objects that are not self-contained, i.e. if there are references to objects outside of the multi selection.

PTV Optima 2022

Broader modeling of demand events:

  • Trigger a custom amount of additional traffic demand, with just a few clicks on the map

  • Simulate programmed demand events: concerts, sport matches, fairs, etc.

  • Quantify traffic impact of unexpected events: bad weather, strikes, evacuations, etc.

Easier simulation of traffic deviations and rerouting events:

  • Simulate impact of new traffic patterns due to deviations

  • Simulate rerouting policies, such as variable message sign panels and police officers on the roads

  • Quickly evaluate the best possible deviations due to roadworks or other network disruptions

Auto-update of live traffic data maps

  • Self-update of new OpenLR map codes in the live traffic data stream

  • Zero service disruptions during updates to the map in the live data feed.

  • Improved performances of live traffic data interfaces
