The intermodal linking of cycling and rail is regarded as an important element for reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector. Germany will need up to 1.5 million additional bicycle parking spaces at railway stations by 2030. This was shown by the study "Bicycle parking at train stations" as part of the BMDV's scientific advice on mobility and fuel strategy. The need for good bicycle parking facilities at the stations is therefore great but planning often fails due to a lack of knowledge, insufficient planning resources or financing. In order to accelerate the construction of bicycle parking facilities and bicycle parking stations, the Information point for bicycle parking at train stations therefore supports interested stakeholders – in particular municipalities. It compiles existing knowledge, complements it in a targeted manner and makes it available to interested parties in a tailor-made manner.
The information point is financed by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMDV) and operated by DB Station&Service AG.
